Accredited first aid courses taught at your workplace, anywhere in Greater Manchester.

Prima Cura Training delivers accredited First Aid Training on-site for employers, schools and care providers across Greater Manchester. We’re based in Manchester, so the trainer comes to you, the scenarios fit the place your team actually works, and one price covers everything.

From carpentry workshops and cleaning teams to tennis courts, care homes and schools, we’ve taught First Aid Training in just about every kind of Manchester workplace. That’s the difference between a course that ticks a box and one that people remember when someone collapses in front of them.

From the Etihad Stadium to Oldham: first aid training at COVID-19 test sites

Between 2020 and 2022, Prima Cura Training was a preferred supplier to a national contractor running COVID-19 test sites for the government. We trained over 1,800 frontline test site staff across the country, including teams at drive-through and walk-in test sites across Greater Manchester, from the Etihad Stadium to Oldham.

None of it happened in a classroom. Training ran outdoors, in PPE, in whatever the Manchester weather was doing that day, all year round. Practical skills still had to be demonstrated and assessed properly while keeping a safe distance. And with high staff turnover, new starters needed training quickly and constantly.

It’s where we learned to build first aid training around the conditions people actually work in, not ideal ones. If we can teach and assess CPR properly in a test site car park in the middle of winter, we can do it in your staff room.

How much does first aid training cost in Manchester?

Emergency First Aid at Work starts at £750 + VAT for a full group of 12 learners, delivered at your workplace in Greater Manchester. That works out at £62.50 + VAT per person.

It’s our baseline, and every quote is worked out from there based on your team, your setting and what you need. Got a smaller team? Tell us how many and we’ll find the most cost-effective way to get them trained. Paediatric First Aid, First Aid at Work and specialist courses are quoted individually.

What’s included in the price?

One price covers everything: trainer travel anywhere in Greater Manchester, certificates, course materials, and ongoing support after the course. We also build your own first aid policy, accident reporting procedure and recording systems into the day, so your team learns how first aid actually works in your organisation. No hidden fees, no add-ons.

What happened two months after Kieren’s first aid course?

Kieren Robinson runs BeeSpoke Carpentry here in Manchester. We met through networking. He booked Emergency First Aid at Work for all his staff, then came back for the three-day First Aid at Work course for himself and his core team.

On a Tuesday in November 2023, a couple of months after his training, a young woman went into cardiac arrest in a Manchester car park. Kieren didn’t wait for someone else to step forward. He started CPR, he used the defibrillator, and she was awake and talking by the time she left in the ambulance.

Kieren is a carpenter, not a paramedic. He remembered his training when it counted. That’s what first aid training is for. Not the certificate in the drawer, but the moment someone needs you to act.

You can read Kieren’s full story in our CPR and AED Awareness Week blog, along with what changed in the Resuscitation Council UK 2025 guidelines.

Which first aid courses can we deliver at your Manchester workplace?

Every course below is delivered on-site, taught face-to-face and assessed practically. If a different course would suit your team better than the one you asked about, we’ll tell you at the enquiry stage, not after you’ve booked.

Workplace first aid

  • Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day): CPR, defibrillator use, choking, severe bleeding, shock and the unresponsive casualty. The usual choice for lower-hazard workplaces.
  • First Aid at Work (3 days): everything in EFAW, plus a wider range of injuries and illnesses including fractures, burns, head injuries and medical emergencies. For higher-hazard or larger workplaces.
  • First Aid at Work Requalification (2 days): for FAW first aiders renewing before their certificate runs out.
  • Emergency First Aid at Work with Life-threatening Bleeding: the EFAW qualification with extra time on controlling catastrophic bleeding.
  • Basic Life Support and AED (half day): three focused hours of CPR and defibrillator practice, and a practical way to deliver the annual refresher HSE strongly recommends for first aiders.

Care and health settings

Not sure which level your team needs? Our workplace first aid guide walks through HSE’s guidance step by step.

How many first aiders does your workplace need?

There’s no fixed number in law.

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate first aid, and the right level comes from your first aid needs assessment. HSE’s leaflet First aid at work: your questions answered suggests these starting points.

Type of workplaceNumber of employeesHSE’s suggested minimum
Lower hazard, for example offices, shops and librariesFewer than 25At least one appointed person
Lower hazard25 to 50At least one first aider trained in EFAW
Lower hazardMore than 50At least one first aider trained in FAW for every 100 employed
Higher hazard, for example construction, warehousing, food processing, or work with dangerous machinery or chemicalsFewer than 5At least one appointed person
Higher hazard5 to 50At least one first aider trained in EFAW or FAW, depending on the type of injuries that might occur
Higher hazardMore than 50At least one first aider trained in FAW for every 50 employed

Those numbers are a floor, not a target. Shift patterns, split sites, holidays, lone workers and members of the public on your premises can all mean you need more cover. We talk this through with every Manchester employer before recommending a course.

First aid accreditation and certificates: your questions answered

Are your first aid courses accredited?

Yes. Every Prima Cura first aid course is accredited through WorkSafe, FAIB or Qualsafe, depending on what your organisation needs. All three meet the standards in HSE’s guidance for employers on selecting a first aid training provider.

Is your first aid training HSE approved?

HSE stopped approving first aid training providers in 2013.
Employers now choose a provider using HSE’s own guidance, and all Prima Cura first aid courses are accredited through awarding organisation routes that meet it.

How long does a first aid certificate last?

Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work certificates are valid for three years. HSE strongly recommends annual refresher training in between, and our half-day Basic Life Support and AED course is a practical way to keep first aiders’ skills current.

Do your courses follow the latest resuscitation guidelines?

Yes. All our first aid courses reflect the Resuscitation Council UK guidelines published in October 2025, and used in 2026, including the change to call 999 straight away for anyone who is unresponsive.

Before you book: questions Manchester employers ask us

Do you have a training venue in Manchester?

We deliver first aid training at your premises, so your team trains in the building where they’d actually respond. You need a room with enough floor space for learners to practise CPR, and we bring everything else.

Can individuals book a place on a first aid course in Manchester?

Not yet. Our Manchester first aid courses are currently booked by organisations for their own teams. We’re planning open courses that individuals can book onto, so get in touch and we’ll let you know when dates are released.

How many people can you train in one session?

We train up to 12 learners per course. If you have more people to train, we’ll split them across sessions that fit around your rota.

Do you cover the whole of Greater Manchester?

Yes. We deliver first aid training in all ten Greater Manchester boroughs, and trainer travel is included in the price wherever you are.

Can you train around shifts, evenings or weekends?

We can look at early, evening and weekend sessions where your rota needs them. Tell us your working patterns when you get in touch and we’ll be clear about what’s available.

Who have we trained across Greater Manchester?

The certificate might be the same. The room never is. Here’s what first aid training has looked like for some of the Greater Manchester organisations we work with.

Oak Learning Partnership, Bury: preferred supplier for school first aid

We’re the preferred first aid training supplier for Oak Learning Partnership in Bury, working across their primary and secondary schools. Staff have completed Paediatric First Aid (including the blended version), Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work, delivered in line with the EYFS statutory framework and Ofsted expectations. The scenarios come straight from school life: playground falls, PE injuries and pupils with medical needs in the classroom.

We now also deliver Benedict’s Law allergy training for the partnership. It runs as its own course, because the Department for Education’s allergy safety guidance is clear that first aid training on its own doesn’t meet the new allergy training duty for schools. There’s more on this on our page about first aid training for schools in Greater Manchester.

Manchester Tennis and Racquet Club: first aid for sports injuries

At Manchester Tennis and Racquet Club in Salford, we trained the club’s pros, coaches and staff in Emergency First Aid at Work, with scenarios built around the injuries that actually happen on court. The session also tackled first aid when the building is unstaffed and what looking after an on-site defibrillator really involves. Read the full story on our first aid training in Salford page.

NHS mental health teams: first aid with a focus on self-harm injuries

For NHS mental health teams in Greater Manchester, we delivered Emergency First Aid at Work with a clear focus on responding to injuries from self-harm. The qualification doesn’t change. What changes is where the practice time goes, so the team spends it on the situations they’re most likely to face.

Your Support Matters CIC and Personal Health Budget holders

Your Support Matters is a community interest company in Ramsbottom that supports people who draw on care and support, including people using Personal Health Budgets and direct payments. We’ve been their preferred supplier for social care and first aid training for a long time.

We also train Personal Health Budget and direct payment holders in their own homes across Greater Manchester. It’s work Steph knows from both ends: she’s a former member of the Skills for Care Personal Health Budgets Steering Committee.

More Greater Manchester organisations we train

  • Cleaning Ventures: Emergency First Aid at Work for the whole organisation, with the CEO and directors training alongside supervisors and cleaners.
  • Unity Homes: a small group of care homes in and around Greater Manchester, where we deliver their mandatory care training, including Basic Life Support.

  • Unity Therapies: training for a bereavement counselling volunteer project in Prestwich, including safeguarding.

Important information: training reflects current UK legislation and guidance at the time of delivery, including HSE guidance and the Resuscitation Council UK 2025 guidelines. First aid training gives people the skills to respond until professional help arrives and doesn’t replace medical treatment. In an emergency, always call 999.
