Moving and Positioning – People

Moving and Positioning People training supports safe practice when assisting individuals with movement and repositioning in health and social care settings. Moving and positioning form part of daily care. However, when staff use poor technique or lack training, these tasks can cause serious injury to both the individual and the carer. Therefore, staff must understand how to carry out moving and positioning safely and correctly.

This Moving and Positioning People course is designed for care workers, support staff, and healthcare professionals who assist individuals with mobility needs. The training provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to move and position people safely, confidently, and in line with current legislation and best practice.

The course covers safe manual handling techniques, the correct use of specialist moving and handling equipment, and the importance of completing risk assessments before assisting with movement. In addition, learners gain a clear understanding of their legal responsibilities, including duties under manual handling and health and safety regulations.

Learners also explore the impact of poor moving and positioning practices. This includes the risk of injury, reduced mobility, and loss of dignity. Therefore, the training places strong emphasis on good posture, spinal care, and maintaining comfort, dignity, and respect during all moving and positioning tasks.

Practical, hands-on training forms a key part of the course. Sessions can be tailored to specific workplace environments, including care homes, hospitals, supported living, and community care settings. This approach helps learners apply skills directly to their own roles and working conditions.

This Moving and Positioning People training supports safe care delivery and aligns with Care Quality Commission (CQC) expectations around safety, competence, and person-centred care. As a result, organisations can reduce injury risk, improve staff confidence, and promote safer outcomes for everyone involved.
